Set in the middle of the beautiful Eastern Cape stretch of the Sundays Rivers Valley,…
Freddie Du Plessis raises Certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World (AGW) and Certified Non-GMO by AGW beef cattle in Queenstown, South Africa.
The cattle at Freddie Du Plessis are rotationally managed, grazing one section of pasture before being moved to fresh fields. This type of management allows grass to recover before cows return to graze again; it also keeps the soil properly fertilised and minimises the build-up of internal parasites, thereby avoiding reliance on chemical treatments.
In addition to being Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW, the cattle herd at the Freddie Du Plessis farm is Certified Non-GMO by AGW. Developed at the request of farmers and consumers seeking a meaningful non-GMO label, Certified Non-GMO by AGW guarantees food is produced without the use of genetically modified feed, supplements or ingredients, and comes from animals raised according to the highest animal welfare standards using sustainable agriculture methods.
Freddie Du Plessis is a member of the Langside Meats Veld-Raised Beef producer group of cattle ranchers in the Queenstown district of the Eastern Cape. The Langside Meats Veld-Raised Beef producer group (GK Landman – Queenstown, South Africa; MG Corbett – Queenstown, South Africa; H Wentzel – Queenstown, South Africa; JC Landman – Queenstown, South Africa) is the first on the continent to be Certified Non-GMO by AGW. Langside Meats’ participating cattle farms were recently audited for all three of A Greener World’s highly regarded labels: Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW, Certified Grassfed by AGW and Certified Non-GMO by AGW. The latter two are optional, additional accreditations for Animal Welfare Approved producers–meaning AGW’s grassfed and non-GMO labels have the added assurance of the highest animal welfare standards as a foundation.
Langside Meats sells their Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW, Certified Non-GMO beef to restaurants, retailers, and food processors throughout the region. For more information about Langside Meats visit langsidemeats.co.za.
